Ringed by 33 acres of the Lythwood Estate it offers access to astonishing views of the Bay of Kenmare stretching as far as the eye can see, from the town of Kenmare to the Atlantic Ocean. More importantly it offers tranquility.

Sneem, Derrynane, Lambs Head, Caherdaniel and Waterville are all nearby.

LAUNDRY Service available on site to save you the hassle. THINGS TO DO AT LYTHWOOD.
Explore the ruins of the old famine houses (or were they perhaps, Leprechaun villages, for the little ones) or take one of the many leisurely walks on the estate. For those energetic folk, hiking over the mountain, starting from behind the estate and linking up with the "Kerry Way " walks, is very special. Rural serenity abounds although the cottage is only 15 minutes drive from the town of Sneem where there is a choice of six busy little pubs that serve up fine fare.
Just 15 minutes walk from Lythwood, down the quiet boreen is the Kinlough Causeway, ideal for fishing and swimming. Alternatively visit the tiny Gleesk Pier to picnic. You may want to consider a boat ride to the Skellig Islands to see the 12th century monastery. Its a must!
For the golf enthusiast there is a 12 hole course at Parknasilla, only 20 minutes drive away, where clubs can be hired. Golf is also available at nearby Waterville or the Ring of Kerry Golf Course in Kenmare .

SNEEM is the most colourful and picturesque village in Ireland with rainbow coloured shops and villagers of matching warmth and colour. The name means "knot or twist" and describes the shape of an hourglass with a  single car bridge being the knot and with two greens at each end. The village provides all the amenities to shop for provisions, Quills Irish linen and 6 pubs serving up fine fare if you choose not to cook. The village is 15 minutes drive from LYTHWOOD .The most scenically beautiful part of the 179km, RING OF KERRY, starts at SNEEM and extends 25kms to WATERVILLE. Whilst the remaining part is pretty, it lacks the awesome beauty of this section.

Upon arrival and traveling to SNEEM your will find it hard to absorb the magnificence of the drive, if you choose the route from KILLARNEY through the lakes and up the highest mountain in Ireland, the MCGILLICUDDY REEKS to MOLLS GAP and on to SNEEM. It is approximately 40kms and you should plan to do this slowly allowing yourself  time to absorb its beauty.

The sun goes down in the winter around 16.30h and in the summer 22.30h and you can arrive at LYTHWOOD at your own convenience.

Airports in order of closest proximity are Kerry(1 hr), Cork( 2.5 hr), Shannon(3.5hr), Galway(4.5hr) and Dublin(5.5 hr) . Our American guests commonly use Shannon as it receives direct flights from the USA . Alternatively interconnect from Dublin to Kerry or Cork.

If help is needed to plan your stay please ask and we will assist wherever possible.
Whilst enjoying your stay at LYTHWOOD we can pre-arrange any activities you may wish to pursue such as golf, cycle hire, river or sea fishing in season for Irish salmon, boat trips or hiking etc. You need only ask .

By request Sallyann will be pleased to cook for you should you want to stay at home on an evening.

Picnic Baskets for a day out, made to order at 24 hours notice, packed with Irish and imported cheeses, Irish hams and cold meats, salads and fresh baguettes. Alternatively, make up your own requirement subject to availability - just ask Sallyann.
