Set in the heart of Southern Lakeland, this beautiful cottage
dates from the C17th and has been very much a feature of local
life and landscape. It stands on the old packhorse route over
the fells and was for many years the local toll house - a stopping
point for travellers making their way to the high peaks. It became
a natural meeting point for folk scattered over the hills and
was once used as a Quaker meeting house.Lilac Cottage nestles
in the hillside with panoramic views over the river Duddon. The
cottage is built in traditional Lakeland stone with walls up to
3 feet thick. The lounge features an inviting open log fire. A
study of the following pages will give you an idea of the superior
quality of the accommodation.
Lilac Cottage has been welcoming people for centuries....come
and see why.
